In Latin, the word camera means in private. The camera is able to capture something special. It helped us see what we could easily miss due to our natural filtering –
a photograph grabs something and puts it out there, in our faces, for us to acknowledge.
I Carry My Words started out as hoping to connect with people – a way to point out how shallow we could sometimes get, without even realizing it. We tend to criticize and judge people, without fully understanding what they have been through.
I Carry My Words was focused on a variety of students at my university. It was hard to get them to open up to me and trust me with their personal secrets, especially in the Egyptian culture, but it got easier along the way.
That girl sitting next to you in class? She has to drop out next semester because her dad lost his job. That boy standing in line in front of you? He tried to commit suicide last summer.
Things are never what they seem.
